Altar Servers
“Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.” – John 12: 26
The Altar Server Ministry is an important part of something awesome! You will learn a great deal about the Mass, you’re Parish, and your Catholic faith. You’ll get to learn these things while serving at Mass and at the Altar Server Meetings and other Altar Server activities. You’ll have opportunities to participate in parish life at Mass and in community service activities.
About the Altar Servers
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy. This is done helping the priest, setting an example to the congregation by really participating in the Mass (singing, saying the responses, sitting or standing at the right time, etc).
To be an altar server is an honor and a privilege. As the late Pope John Paul II stated, “Your commitment to the altar is not only a duty, but a great honor, [and] a genuine holy service.” The purpose of this ministry is serving at the Table of the Lord, assisting the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist as well as other sacraments or liturgical activities.

Ministry Enrollment Requirements
Altar servers must be registered boys or girls and members of St. Mary Magdalene Church.
Servers must have received:
- Sacrament of the First Holy Communion.
- Must attend Mass on a regular basis.
- Minimum age of 10.
- Complete an Altar Server Orientation and training session
