LEADERSHIP MINISTRIES
 
FINANCE COUNCIL:
The Finance Council is a consultative body of parishioners required by Canon Law who advise the Pastor and Parish Pastoral Council in matters pertaining to the parish's financial and business affairs. By pastoral invitation.  

PASTORAL COUNCIL:
The Pastoral Council is a consultative body to the Pastor through which the Christian faithful are to give their assistance in fostering pastoral activity. By pastoral invitation. 
 
STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL:
The Stewardship Council was formed to develop and assist with the implementation of our parish Stewardship Plan. Our mission is to make stewardship a way of life for each parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene. "We are the caretakers of God's gifts."



SPIRITUAL MINISTRIES
 
ADULT BIBLE STUDY:

This ministry meets in the evenings to study the word of God. We use the Bread of Life format and will help you apply God's word to your daily life.
 
CENACLE OF PRAYER:

We meet on the first Thursday of the month following the 8:30 am Mass. We meet to pray the rosary and consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and we are part of the Marian movement of Priests.
 
PERPETUAL ADORATION:

Web-site  On Sunday, February 20, 1994, our parish became the third parish in the state to have a Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Perpetual Adoration continues without interruption 24 hours, 7 days a week. Adorers commit to a specific day and hour to ensure that Jesus is never left alone. Adorers experience a deeper faith and a closer relationship with Jesus. Christ should be the Center of our lives. 

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY:

Women of diverse ages, meet to read, study and discuss God's word, the Catechism and Catholic studies of interest. Tuesday 9:30am-11:00am during the school year.
 
 

LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
 
ALTAR LINENS:

This is a very special ministry, requiring respectful attention to the linens that are used during the Mass. As the schedule now stands, each member of the "LINEN LADIES" launders and irons approx. 80 linen purificators, 1 or 2 times a year.


ALTAR SERVERS:

Assist the Priest and Deacon and congregation during liturgical celebrations. This is an important ministry both of prayer and service. Servers are called to be special, visible models of a prayerful spirit at Mass. Altar servers must be registered boys or girls and members of St. Mary Magdalene Church.
Servers must have recieved:
    1.  Sacrament of First Holy Communion 
    2.  Must attend Mass on a regular basis
    3.  Minimum age of 10 
    4.  Complete an Altar Server Oreientation and training session

 EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION:

Commissioned Ministers contribute to the celebration of the Liturgies by distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to His people. Ministers are given reason and purpose to increase their knowledge, appreciation and dedication to the most sacred mysteries and noble liturgies of the Church. Some ministers also bring the Eucharist to those parishioners who cannot worship with us due to illness. Training classes are posted in the bulletin. 

GREETERS:

Welcome the parishioners and guests as they arrive for weekend Masses. Families, couples and singles can participate in this ministry. Through this ministry we try to foster a sense of "family" within our parish, and provide assistance for newcomers and guests. Greeters are scheduled to volunteer at the Mass of their choice, and also have the privilege of presenting the offertory gifts at the altar.
 
LECTORS:

The lectors proclaim the "Word of God" in the first and second reading at weekend masses. They also lead us in the prayers of the faithful in the absence of the Deacon. Attendance at a scheduled training session is mandatory prior to being scheduled for Sunday Mass. Training classes are posted in the bulletin.
 
MUSIC MINISTRY:

This Ministry strives to enhance the congregation's participation in the liturgy by providing appropriate hymns and music that support the Scripture readings and the liturgical theme of the Mass.

USHERS:

These adult parishioners serve the parish by assisting at all Masses by facilitating order in the church, and assisting with seating parishioners and passing around and collecting the offering.

 

EDUCATION AND EVANGELIZATION
 
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE:

CHILDREN'S LITURGY:

Children's Liturgy is a ministry that teaches children (ages 5-10) about the Gospel in an age appropriate format. It is held during the 9:00 and 11:00 Sunday Masses. The children attend Mass with their families and leave with the children's Minister of the Word. They return to the Mass as part of the offertory procession. Volunteers are needed to assist with this ministry.

JUNIOR HIGH/Edge

This ministry is an educational, service and social group for our junior high youth. This ministry helps our youth develop into stronger Catholics. They are encouraged to be more involved in their parish and experience the joy of serving others. Volunteers who have a heart to serve our youth are always welcome. Web-site

LIFETEEN:

Life Teen is a nationwide program that focuses on bringing teens together to develop a personal relationship with Christ. Life Teen provides direction for teens and their families that is grounded in our Catholic Faith. The Life Teen Mass, is on Sundays at 6:00pm, and is a very upbeat and uplifting celebration. Life Teen meets after Mass and holds core meetings on Thursday evenings. Other Life Teen events include service projects, trips, fundraisers and retreats. Life Teen is guided by adults who help create a comfortable group atmosphere based on Catholic teachings. Web-site

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA):

RCIA is the process through which people become members of the Catholic Church. Our faith community reaches out and welcomes those who are experiencing a deepening conversion in their lives, and guides them through a period of formation. It culminates in full communion with the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation.  Parishioners are needed to serve as sponsors and catechists and to provide hospitality.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

St. Mary Magdalene's Religious Education Program continues the mission of Jesus through catechetical ministry. It embraces the young members of our parish by striving to provide an inclusive program that responds to the spiritual, intellectual, social and psychological needs of our youth. The Religious Education Program relies on volunteer teachers who accompany our youth on their journey of faith from preschool through grade 8. Religious Education classes are from K3- Grade 8 and high school Confirmation. Web-site  

 

COMMUNITY MINISTRIES

ATHLETICS:

The youth athletics program is an integral part of our parish community life. Through athletics our youth have the opportunity to use the talents given to them and, at the same time, further develop and reinforce the Catholic values they are learning at home, and church. Currently the youth and men's basketball program is part of the GDUMRA League and runs from November through March. We also have men's softball team through the YMCA and this program runs March through August.  Web-site

BOY SCOUTS:

Designed for boys 11-18 years old or grades 6-12. An individualized program of goal setting and achievement. Boy Scouts experience democracy in action, community service projects, and peer leadership. Youth learn the basics of first aid, citizenship, physical fitness, and outdoor skills, and then choose from over 100 career- and hobby-related topics.  www.bsatroop420sc.com  

CARING AND SHARING:
Provides support and care for those in need and, also, to the bereaved and their families. This is a "behind the scenes ministry" as they hold receptions following funerals and at times provide food in response to a major medical emergency. Members are called upon when needed.

Catholic Engaged Encounter::

A group of married couples and clergy committed to working through the Catholic Church in a ministry of marriage preparation.  Our mission is to promote and strenghten the sacrament fo Marriage and as a community to improve the quality of Christian marriage through the education of engaged couples.  This is done through retreat-like weekends held throughout the year.
 
CHILDREN'S NURSERY:

The nursery is open to children six (6) months to four (4) years of age Saturdays at the 5:00pm Vigil, and Sundays during the 9:00am, 11:00am and 6:00pm Liturgies. Our nursery provides a safe and nurturing environment allowing the parents to attend Mass with fewer interruptions.

CUB SCOUTS:
Scouting is a year round family program designed for boys who are in the first thru fifth grades. They participate in fun and exciting activities that help build character, fitness, spiritual growth and good citizenship. Leaders and parents help by planning the activities with the scouts.

Feed the Hungry:

Parishioners prepare and serve meals up to 300 needy Greenville residents four times a year. It provides us with the opportunity to serve as Jesus asked us, "to feed the hungry".
 
GIRL SCOUTS:

Provides girls with a wonderful opportunities that build character and development of strong leadership and decision making skills, social conscience, strong values and self confidence. Girls learn and have fun in a nurturing environment with committed adult volunteers. 
 
GRIEF SUPPORT:

For people who have had a loss whether personally, financially, physically, spiritually or mentally. We give counseling, prayers, spiritual guidance, empathy and friendship.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:

Parishioners help build houses for the needy, by painting, landscaping, carpentry or cooking. We work on a house once a year on the second Saturday. We help other local churches build their Habitat houses.

HISPANIC MINISTRY:

Our Hispanic ministry offers Spanish-speaking parishioners the opportunity to worship in their own language and to observe some of the religious traditions found within the culture of the Hispanic families. Families meet weekly for prayer and fellowship in the Conner Ministry Building to discuss and develop the social needs of the Hispanic community

HOSPITALITY:
Parishioners gather after Mass while enjoying light refreshments. Parish socials are held on the first Sunday of the month following the 9 and 11:00 am Liturgies.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS:

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal organization that was established on the ideas of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Membership is open to all Catholic men 18 years and older and who are in full Communion with the Catholic Church. 
 
K OF C LADIES AUXILIARY: 
An organization for ladies who have male family members who belong to the Knights of Columbus. These ladies assist the Knights of Columbus with various activities. Meetings are on the third Monday of the month.  

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER:

Designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together...a time to share their feelings, their hopes, disappointments, joys and frustration... and to do so openly and honestly in a face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter with the one person they have chosen to live with for the rest of their lives.

PRO-LIFE:

Every human life is precious and created by God.  This ministry supports the call to respect and protect all human life from conception to natural death.  This is done through prayer and activities that provide a visible message to our community.   October is Respect Life Month.  During this month the ministry supports Rosaries for Life, Lifechain, and 40 days for life.  During other parts of the year the ministry supports the Columbia Respect Life Rally in January and the Spring 40 days for life.   Join us and stand up for life.

RECEPTIONISTS:
All incoming calls and visitors are greeted by a friendly group of trained volunteers. If you have several hours to volunteer we are always looking for temporary and permanent receptionists to answer phones and help out with various administrative tasks in the parish office.

SENIOR COMPANIONS:
A ministry of presence that matches seniors with volunteers whose friendship adds vitality and meaning to their lives. Seniors aged 60+ who are mentally alert and have some degree of mobility are eligible to receive a companion who has undergone a background check and can devote time to assisting with small chores, and celebrate special occasions. We are always looking for volunteers that are willing to commit to training and serve at least one year
as a companion. 
 
SENIORS (YOUNG AT HEART):

For parishioners that are 55+ and interested in spiritual, social and community service events. We meet regularly on the second Tuesday of the month

SICK AND SHUT-INS:

This ministry reaches out to our parishioners who cannot worship with us due to illness or being homebound. We visit those in nursing homes, sick at home, or in retirement homes and take Communion to them once a week. This ministry is open to all ExtraordinaryMinisters of Holy Communion
 
YACHT CLUB:

Young Adult Catholics Hanging Together, is a group of young professionals in their twenties and thirties. They gather for friendship, stewardship and spiritual growth through a variety of activities. The YACHT Club plans discussion groups, service projects, social nights and other activities the members wish to participate.
 
SUPPER CLUB:

Members of the Supper Club provide a unique opportunity to get to know fellow parishioners in a casual and social setting. It is made up of married couples that gather together in each others homes for dinner once a month for faith sharing and camaraderie.
