Discipleship Committee Application

What is the Discipleship Committee?

The Discipleship Committee will research, develop, execute, and continually improve a strategy that will help the entire parish strive towards our vision to create missionary disciples and to grow in our relationships with Jesus. This strategy will be called the Discipleship Path and will seek input and integration of the Spirit-led ministry of the clergy, councils, committees, ministries, and staff as well as identifying new areas of opportunity in evangelization and discipleship.

Main areas the committee will strategize include pre-evangelization, evangelization, new and maturing disciples in regards to community and spiritual growth, worship, service in ministry, and preparing to send disciples into the mission field.

The committee is an active committee – not a consultative body – and the term for membership is 3 years.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the committee will include committed parishioners who have a variety of skills or attributes – strategy, teaching, administration, hospitality, big picture thinker, execution, team player, etc.

As a newly formed committee, its scope will change as strategy is developed.

Expectations of a Discipleship Committee Member:

  • Members shall attend meetings and be willing to work actively between meetings
  • Members shall be active in the financial support of the parish through a tithe
  • If you have limited time to serve, the Discipleship Committee shall be your prime ministry
  • Members shall be able to collaborate with others on the committee and be willing to seek wisdom and input from other groups at the parish
  • Members shall hold themselves to a high level of integrity befitting a leader of the parish
  • Members shall hold work in progress or sensitive information in confidence if requested
  • Members shall commit to pray actively corporately and individually on behalf of the parish and this committee’s members and efforts
  • Members shall be in good standing with the Catholic Church and parish
