ADVENT-ure

___________________________________________________________________________

Advent, the four weeks before Christmas. Advent is the expectation of God’s Word among us! It is the beginning of a new Advent-ure and a new Church year! It is a time of preparation, waiting and hope.

The expectation of the Advent of God in the Old Testament renews God’s promise to be there for the people, no matter  what. If God could save a people from slavery in Egypt and bring them back to their land, God could also help  believers of future generations to expect the same. The anointed One of God, the Messiah, would come into our midst to do so!

Our Advent-ure today is the opportunity to prepare for the first coming of Jesus at His birth in Bethlehem, and the  Second Coming of Jesus at the end of time.

This busiest time of the year calls us to draw close to others, and above all to God, who became flesh and lives within us. It means making TIME for God and Family! “But....I Don’t Have Time!” We succumb to the Terrible Time Trashers: The Three C’s—the Calendar, the Clock and the Car.

The Gift of Time! Take control of the “Terrible Three C’s” Our time problems begin with our calendar! Our family schedules and personal agendas leave little  time for ourselves or our families. “I don’t know how I can accomplish what I have to do now, let alone find time for anything else!” “My calendar is just too full!” Whose handwriting is on the calendar? You have control! Insert time for family (TFF) on your calendars. Insert time for God (TFG) on your calendars.

Time For Family (TFF): Among the customs of Advent, the Advent wreath is probably the most important. Lighting the Advent candles each day with a prayer can prepare your household for Christmas. For children, an Advent calendar marking off the days before Christmas can be an aid for living the season. Spend time each evening with your Advent Wreath. Reflect on the readings; share the moment with your family.

Time for God (TFG): The following is a list of opportunities for spending time with God.

With the Parish Community at Mass: Faithfully using your Advent Wreath and Calendar will increase your participation and understanding of the Liturgical power and beauty in the Advent-ure of this beautiful season.
