THE WHITE GARMENT OF HOLINESS

Clergy Corner by Fr. Robert Falabella

Through our Baptism in Christ, the heavenly Father CALLS us to become a member of the eternal Family of God: for, through that Sacrament, the Spirit of Christ dwells within us so that we can call God “Father,” (Rom 8: 14-15) and thus enter into the more abundant life of Christ (John 10:10), His chosen ones.

The “CHOSEN” are those who RESPOND to this INVITATION, as exemplified in those Apostles who ACCEPTED Jesus as the Son of the living God, and so all that embraces the mystery of the CREATOR -- in contrast to Judas who rejected the invitation by preferring the 30 pieces of silver -- symbol of everything that embraces CREATION.

The refusal by one of the invited guests to wear the white garment -- the condition required to participate in the “feast” -- a term representing eternal life -- is a clear reference to those who refuse to accept God as God; who choose to make God in their image, rather than accepting being made in God’s image; who choose rather to do things their way rather than God’s way.

This present-day self-imaging of God or the outright denial of God daily takes place in grotesque ways by those who disregard God’s revelation as found in the Commandment: “Thou shalt not murder” (Exodus 20:13) by fostering Euthanasia; or those justifying the murder of the innocent in the womb under the guise of protecting women’s health.

Other examples of this REJECTION of the ‘WHITE GARMENT’ are further seen in those defying the necessity of sexual complementarity for the preservation of the human species by assigning gratuitously the term “marriage” TO THE UNION of those of the SAME SEX, or those “self-styled Transgender” who reject their biological identity in favor of expensive and lengthy surgical and hormonal procedures -- in spite of the fact that their birth chromosome of either (X,Y) male or (Y,Y) female remain.

While God’s invitation or CALLING to participate in the FEAST of ETERNAL LIFE with Him is open to all, the CHOSEN will only be among those who accept God on His terms -- symbolized in wearing the white garment of HOLINESS -- as found in those who respond to God’s command: “Be holy, for I your God am holy” by a love for Jesus expressed in fulfillment of His words: “If you love me, keep my commandments and my Father will love you and we will come and make our abode with you.”
