Got Soul?

Clergy Corner by Deacon Ivan Hawk for November 1, 2015

Clergy Corner by Deacon Ivan Hawk - November 1, 2015 - 31SunOrd

Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being (Genesis 2:7).

Your Soul was Created Immediately by God.

“Every spiritual soul is created immediately by God at the moment of your conception in the womb, it is not 'produced’ by the parents—and it is immortal: it does not perish when it separates from the body at death, and it will be reunited with the body at the final Resurrection.” The very life-breath of God energized your body with a soul, and that began the discovery of who you are as a unique creation, and what your purpose in life is. You "Got Soul!”

What Is Your Soul?

The word “soul" is used in the Bible to describe the essence of humanity, male and female, who have been created equally in the image and likeness of God. Your soul is the essence of your unique self, of your personality, which includes Intelligence, Will and Consciousness.

YOU Must Safeguard Your Soul

Soul (self) in the New Testament is to be safeguarded at all costs by surrendering it to God’s care. The whole notion of immortality is your self-searching for eternal life and the object of salvation: saving your soul. Your soul is the totality of yourself as a living and conscious being; your soul is what is saved for eternal life.

Your Soul is Immortal

The flesh, the body, is a symbol of weakness and mortality. That is not what God intended at the beginning of Creation. We were destined to live forever in a close and loving relationship with our Creator. The sin of Adam and Eve brought death to our bodies but not death to our souls. To be immortal is to have eternal life or existence.

The Resurrection of Body and Soul

Your soul continues on after your body dies and remains in existence forever. At the final Resurrection, your soul will be reunited with your body.

The choices you make in your mortal life will impact the destiny of your immortal soul forever. The final destination will be heaven or hell. The good news is, the choice is yours! You “Got Soul!”
